Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Jacksonville, Texas
(JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS) The 2nd Annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors community workday event helps those in need with minor home repairs, landscaping and painting projects. Last year, the planning committee developed selection criteria for the purpose of reviewing applications. The selection criteria included, households being of low-income, applicants must reside in the home for which they requested repairs, live within “close proximity” to Lincoln Park and be willing to contribute sweat equity or have family & friends that are willing to contribute on their behalf. Last year, three homeowners were assisted. Volunteers replaced window trim, installed exterior doors, repaired & installed handrails, & completed various landscaping projects. Additionally, monetary donations were used to paint each of the homes. And this year, volunteers will be asked to do more of the same.
The community is asking for individuals & groups to volunteer for the workday on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Those interested in volunteering & donating can do so by visiting Facebook.com/JacksonvilleNHN or go to Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/first-annual-neighbors-helping-neighbors-tickets-414710559447?aff=ebdssbdestsearch) to register & donate. Registration will begin at 8:00 am at Lincoln Park with volunteers dispersed to their assigned work sites by 9:00 am. Work tools will be provided but volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own. Volunteers are also asked to bring their own work gloves.
Also, those interested in making donations can do so using Eventbrite. Donations will be used to purchase materials and tools for the day. The group is asking 200 volunteers to donate $25 each. All donations are tax deductible.
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to all volunteers. Ms. Wonder Hill, one of last year’s recipients shared, “…they moved stuff that I wasn’t able to move...they painted the house. They did a wonderful job! I’m just very blessed for all of it!”
