Inspired by the timeless children's novel, "A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett which in turn inspired a classic Shirley Temple film, a 1990s TV movie and yes, even a VeggieTale video ("The Penniless Princess"), the story of Sara Crewe is remembered he young and the young-at-heart with great fondness. You won't want to miss this World Premiere because our "Christmas for A Little Princess" adds two twists - it's set at Christmas AND it's set in Texas!
Sara Crewe is the much-loved daughter of the very wealthy Capt. Crewe. In 1895, he enrolls her in a girls' school in Galveston before embarking on an adventure in South America. At the school, Sara encounters Lavinia, the original 'mean girl' who mockingly calls Sara "the little princess". Despite Lavinia's taunting, Sara's s quiet dignity and sense of fair play does make her seem like a princess and she is soon fast friends with Becky, Lottie and Ermengarde.
In a sad twist, Sara goes from treasured student to mistreated servant at the school when Capt. Crewe disappears on his jungle exploration. She is determined to 'keep Christmas in her heart' and treat everyone with kindness and respect like a princess would. With the help of Becky, Ermengarde and Lottie - and the mischievous boys next-door - Sara holds on to her hopes that this year will bring her father home - which would be the greatest Christmas gift of all.
Performances will be Friday & Saturday December 6 & & at 7:30pm and Sunday matinee December 8th @ 2pm. "Christmas for A Little Princess" is written & directed by Sheilah O'Heaney, produced by Judy Faye Garner with a cast of 25 that features faces familiar and new in this one-weekend only production.
