Nonprofit Executive Director

Position Summary:
 
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrator of East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition, acting as the key liaison among the board, staff, volunteers, and the community. Guided by the board of trustees and operating within established policies and budget constraints, the ED is responsible for planning, staffing, and overseeing the organization's programs.
 
 
The Executive Director (ED) of East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition plays a multifaceted role that encompasses several key responsibilities:
 
Responsibilities:
 
1. Leadership and Vision: The ED is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization in alignment with its mission and values provided by the Board of Trustees. This involves developing long-term goals and ensuring that the organization adapts to changing community needs.
 
2. Board Liaison: Acting as the primary link between the board of trustees and the operational side of the organization, the ED communicates board policies, gathers input from staff and volunteers, and ensures that board decisions are implemented effectively.
 
3. Program Development and Management: The ED oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs. This includes identifying community needs, developing appropriate programs, and ensuring they are executed within the approved budget.
 
4. Staff Management: Recruiting, training, and managing staff are crucial aspects of the ED's role. The ED fosters a positive work environment, encourages professional development, and ensures that the staff is aligned with the organization's goals.
 
5. Volunteer Engagement: Volunteers are often vital to the success of nonprofit organizations. The ED cultivates relationships with volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and are effectively integrated into the organization's programs.
 
6. Financial Oversight: The ED manages the organization's budget, ensuring that financial resources are allocated appropriately and that the organization remains financially sustainable. This includes fundraising efforts and financial reporting to the board.
 
7. Community Relations: Building relationships with community members and local organizations is essential. The ED represents East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition in the community, advocating for the organization's mission and seeking partnerships that can enhance its impact.
 
8. Compliance and Governance: The ED ensures that the organization complies with all relevant laws and regulations. This includes maintaining transparency and accountability in operations and reporting to the Board of Trustees.
 
9. Crisis Management: In times of crisis or unexpected challenges, the ED must be able to lead the organization through uncertainty, making quick decisions and communicating effectively with all staff, volunteers and the Board of Trustees.
 
Qualifications:
 
Above all, the person who becomes the ED of East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition will consider the directorship of ministry in response to God’s call for justice to the poor.  Other qualifications include, but not limited to…
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Trained and skilled in determining needs and resources, then meeting those needs in a timely, professional manner. (Social work experience and/or certification a plus)
3. Previous experience with non-profit organizations
4. Ability to maintain accurate and useful records to motivate and train volunteers
5. Proficiency in computers and various applications, including word processing, financial management and project management
6. Effective writing and oral communication skills
7. Ability to pass required drug testing and background check
8. Able to work weekends (Thursday – Sunday) 
 
This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse group of people. The ED must be adaptable and resilient, capable of navigating the complexities of nonprofit management while remaining focused on the mission of East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition.
